Repairs carried out on Hartham footbridge

Repairs have been carried out on the footbridge adjacent to Hartham after decking installed four years ago began to lift.

The bridge is an important walking and cycling link, forming part of National Cycle Route 61 between Hertford and Ware. The wooden decking had begun to lift in places and, if left unrepaired, would have posed a hazard to users.

While ownership of the bridge is unclear, both councils agreed that it must remain open and safe. East Herts Council provided access to the site so that Hertfordshire County Council’s highways team could carry out the necessary repair work.

The work took place on 14th August.

We want cycling and walking to be safe and convenient transport options, so keeping this key part of the national cycle network in good repair is important. I am pleased that, working with Cllr Ben Crystall who raised this with me, we found a way - along with East Herts Council - to fund and carry out these works to keep the bridge safe for walkers and cyclists.
