Crafters reveal rivers yarnbomb
The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters has unveiled their latest yarnbomb, celebrating Hertford's rivers.
Inspired by the natural beauty surrounding the town, the crafters have transformed Parliament Square to recreate scenes from the Rivers Rib, Lea, Mimram, Beane, New, Lee Navigation and Ashbourne, showing the water, its banks and natutal habitats.
Knitters have crocheted, sewed and upcycled a chalk stream, fish, ducks, coots, bees, butterflies, bullrushes, grasses, flowers, frogs, crayfish, voles, squirrels, herons, otters and water rats. The display also features a narrowboat "Yarn Voyage" – a pleasure boat, wild swimmers, kayakers, anglers, birdwatchers, cyclists, dog walkers, joggers, gazebos and picnics!
The Crafter's chosen charity for the display is the Hertford Pantry, who support over 1600 local households with food and groceries.
Our team of volunteers are involved in both collections from supermarkets and running ourfood pantry sessions at Sele Farm Community Hub and Pinehurst Community Centre, both located in Hertford. We work closely with a broad network of large and small food retailers andcollect surplus fresh food every day of the week. We are also supported by some fabulous localbusinesses who donate regular supplies of fresh produce.
