Book Launch Celebrates Garden Designer's Bicentenary

A talk and book-signing event is taking place at Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies this coming Thursday 19th April.

The book launch celebrates the bicentenary of the death of influential landscape gardener Humphry Repton, who designed Panshanger Park.

The talk will be given by Professor Tom Williamson, who will explore Repton's work in Hertfordshire and will be followed by a book signing.

Repton made a particularly significant contribution to the landscape of Hertfordshire, working at no less than eighteen places in the county, ranging in size from great mansions like Cashiobury and Panshanger to more modest 'villas' owned by wealthy businessmen and industrialists, such as Wood Hill in Essendon. Other estates were he has worked include Tatton Park in Cheshire, Welbeck Abbey in Nottinghamshire, and Woburn Abbey. His work also includes Bloomsbury Square in London.

The event takes place at The Registry Block at County Hall. Admission is £5 and entry to the book signing is free.
