Nitrous Oxide seized after vehicle stop
A quantity of nitrous oxide was recovered after police made a proactive stop in Hertford at the weekend.
Officers were conducting patrols in the town centre to help tackle serious violence, anti-social behaviour and violence against women and girls.
Concerned for the welfare of two women, officers stopped a vehicle to make sure they were safe and discovered six people in the back.
A search was carried out and 35 nitrous oxide cannisters were subsequently located and seized.
A criminal investigation are now ongoing.
East Herts Police have received numerous reports of nitrous oxide use being linked to anti-social behaviour in Hertford town centre.
In November 2023, recreational use of nitrous oxide became illegal and anyone using it is committing a criminal offence. Penalities include an unlimited fine and up to two years in prison
Anyone found guilty of supplying the drug for recreational use could be jailed for up to 14 years.
