Police and Crime Commissioner elections 2024
The county's next Police and Crime Commissioner will be elected this coming Thursday 2nd May.

Police and Crime Commissioners hold the Chief Constable and the local police force to account, effectively making the police answerable to the communities they serve. The role includes:
- securing an efficient and effective police service for the county
- appointing the Chief Constable
- setting police and crime objectives through a police and crime plan;
- setting a budget
- contributing to the national and international policing capabilities set out by the Home Secretary
- bringing together community safety and criminal justice partners, to make sure local priorities are joined up.
Earler this year, David Lloyd, who has been Hertfordshire's PCC for the last 12 years, announced that he would be standing down. Mr Lloyd is one of the longest-serving Commissioners in the country after being elected to the post when it was created in 2012.
Speaking after making the decision Mr Lloyd said: "I have served three terms as Police and Crime Commissioner for the county and have thoroughly enjoyed the role and appreciated the wonderful support and friendship of my team. It has been the greatest privilege of my life representing the amazing people of Hertfordshire. However, one of the arts of leadership is to know when to hand the reins on to someone else. That time has come."
The candidates standing in this year's election are:
- Jonathan ASH-EDWARDS (Conservative Candidate - More Police, Safer Streets)
- Matt FISHER (Green Party)
- Tom PLATER (Labour and Co-operative Party)
- Sean PRENDERGAST (Liberal Democrats)
You can find out more about the candidates at the Choose My PCC website.
The election is being run by the Chief Executive of Broxbourne Borough Council, Jeff Stack, who has been appointed as the Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) for Hertfordshire for the 2024 election.
