First shop opens at Lea Wharf

Thursday 28 March 2024

The first retail shop has opened in the redeveloped Bircherley Green, with further businesses set to open in the coming weeks.

Card Factory opened this morning Thursday 28th March and become the first business to start trading in the redeveloped shopping area, selling cards, gifts and party supplies.

The retailer also had a presence in the previous shopping centre, opening in 2009 and closing four years ago in 2019 when the centre closed.

Card Factory came to Hertford in 2009, replacing mobile phone shop O2.

Other businesses set open at Lea Wharf include a large Boots, Quattro Lounge, a nail salon and a gym. Further hospitality businesses are also expected to open.

Just one retail unit remains to be filled.

The redevelopment of Bircherley Green was originally expected to offer 3419 sq.m of commercial space, similar to the 1980s development, but 936 sq.m of this has been occupied by the new Lea Wharf Medical centre. Over 500 sq.m in expected to be occupied by the gym.

Card Factory sells gifts, cards and stationery
The shops also sells party goods such as candles, paper and plastic cups and plates and balloons
A small selection of sweets is also available

Details of Card Factory and other retail outlets can be found on our shopping database.
