Marson votes in favour of Privileges report

Monday 19 June 2023

Hertford & Stortford constituency MP Julie Marson has voted in favour of the privileges committee’s report that found Boris Johnson had deliberately misled the House of Commons.

She was joined by Broxbourne MP Charles Walker, who is a member of the committee who held an investigation in to Boris Johnson's behaviour.

MPs in other neighbouring constituencies abstained, including Robert Halfon (Con, Harlow), Oliver Heald (Con, North Herts) and Stephen McPartland (Con, Stevenage).

Some 118 Tories voted in favour of the report, including Cabinet members Penny Mordaunt, the Commons leader, Education Secretary Gillian Keegan, and Justice Secretary Alex Chalk.  Seven Tories voted against the report after a five-hour debate in Parliament.

Ms.Marson was previously a supporter of Boris Johnson, famously having named her dog 'Boris'. However she welcomed his resignation as Prime Minister in November last year whilst paying tribute to his achievements, saying: "I have supported a Prime Minister who won an 80-seat majority. He is a man who got Brexit done when many said it couldn’t be done. He has shown great leadership during the pandemic and he has been steadfast in the face of Russian aggression in Ukraine.".

Ms.Marson has been approached for comment.
