Town centre roadworks to last 8 weeks

Thursday 8 September 2022

Drivers are being warned to expect delays for up to 8 weeks, as contractors carry out footway reconstruction in Old Cross, The Wash and on Mill Bridge.

Temporary traffic lights will cause significant traffic disruption and extended journey times in the town centre from Monday 12th September.

The works are taking place between Old Cross and Maidenhead Street, with the temporary traffic controls replacing the lights at Old Cross and on the pedestrain crossing adjacent to Maidenhead Street.

Temporary traffic lights were in action earlier in the week to allow for water main connection but contractors failed to turn up to carry out the work and the controls were later removed.

There is also disruption at Hertford Theatre where major redevelopment work has narrowed the pavement as parts of the building are demolished.

Footway reconstruction is expected to be complete by Monday 7th November 2022.
