Phone stolen in distraction theft

Police are looking for a man after a mobile phone was taken in a distraction theft in a Hertford pub.

At around 4.40pm on Wednesday 12th January a customer was in The Bell Public House  when he was approached by an Eastern European man, who spoke Spanish. He placed a letter over the victim's mobile phone, which was on a table, before asking for money, to distract the victim. He then left the pub with the letter and the phone.

Theft from the person is relativey uncommon in Hertford, with just 12 reported incidents in the last six months, mostly taking place in the town centre.
