Live music returns to The Corn Exchange

Monday 28 June 2021

Hertford Corn Exchange is to re-open for live music after management of the venue was taken over by the team behind The Horn in St.Albans.

Work has already begun on installing a new bar set-up and bringing in a new first-class sound and lighting system. Plans are in place to re-open the venue towards the latter part of 2021.

Despite rumours that the landlords were planning to convert the premises into flats, the new management team have been working with the owners to keep the venue’s rich heritage and make key improvements to the site.

Live music at The Horn in St.Albans is managed by Juicebox Live, who also run the Horn at The Half Moon in Bishops Stortford. Founder of Juicebox, Luke Hinton, has been awarded the ‘Best Independent Promoter in the UK’ on two occasions in 2016 and 2018, and has also featured as a guest speaker on various music industry panels including BBC Introducing Live, ILMC, Music Venue Trust’s Venue’s Day, BIMM and Live Summit UK Music.

Luke has worked with artists including Bastille, The Bluetones, Chrissie Hynde, The Fratellis, Years & Years, Razorlight, Turin Brakes and Wheatus.

Juicebox Live have been regular guests on various radio stations including BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat, BBC Introducing, BBC 6 Music, Radio X as well as local radio stations. They are also an official promoter for Independent Venue Week, a founding member of the Association of Independent Promoters and fully active in supporting the Music Venue Trust.

Cllr Jane Sartin, Chairman of the Development & Leisure Committee at Hertford Town Council said: "The Corn Exchange has always been a very popular music venue in Hertford, and I know many people will welcome the return of live music to the town."

Sybil Bell, founder of Independent Venue Week, commented: "It's incredibly exciting to see a new live music venue opening in Hertford from the team at the hugely successful Horn in St Albans. After the toughest period in history for arts and culture, the opening of a new venue is a huge boost to the local community and the music industry. We are looking forward to working with the team and welcoming the venue to the Independent Venue Week family."
