Arrest after sexual offence

A man has been arrested after an alleged sexual offence took place in the castle grounds on Friday.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Herts Police Chief Inspector Stuart Orton said: "I can confirm that an allegation of a sexual offence occurring on Friday (14 August) afternoon has been made. The alleged offence occurred at about 3.50pm in a very busy area of the Castle Grounds immediately adjacent to the gates leading from Hertford Theatre.

"Investigators are currently reviewing the facts surrounding the allegation and officers have also attended the location at part of initial enquiries. I would like to reassure members of the public that local and specialist officers are working together to ensure that every possible line of enquiry is followed.

"A 41 year old man has been arrested and is currently in custody while the investigation continues. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time."
