Sink hole closes Windsor Drive

Friday 6 March 2020

A large sink hole has closed Windsor Drive on the Sele Farm Estate.

Highways contractors have excavated the hole to a depth of 1.2m and are waiting for a team from Thames Water to carry out a survey with underground cameras to help try and identify the cause and extent of the problem.

Contractors are unable to say how long it will take to address the problem until the full scale of the issue has been determined and what steps will be necessary to repair the road.

Sele Farm has a history of sink holes and subsidence, both in roads and residential properties. A 6ft wide hole opened up in Cherry Tree Green in February 2014. A row of properties in Tudor Way had to be demolished and rebuilt in 2016 after subsidence made the homes unsafe.

Parts of the estate date back to the post-war years. The school and shops were built in the 1960s.
