The new premises will feature a commercial training kitchen costing an estimated to be £18,702, which will include 2 electric cookers, worktop counters, 1 freezer, 1 fridge, 1 dishwasher, and shelving. The kitchen will be large enough for both chef and baker to work alongside each other training up to four disabled café workers.
A public appeal for funding has so far raised a £3,000 so far, with donations being made through the Mudlarks website or directly through www.kindlink.com/charity/the-mudlarks-community. Alternatively, cheques payable to Mudlarks can be dropped off at the cafe, or posted to 40 Wellington street, Hertford SG14 3AW
The café provides training and paid work for adults with learning disabilities, offering vegetarian and vegan food, as well as a wide range of traditional, dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan cakes.
Mudlarks have been forced to find new premises after the owner of the building successfully applied for planning permission to redevelop the retail units and convert the upper floors to residential use.
