Police respond to knifepoint robberies

Tuesday 23 July 2019

Herts Police have increased patrols on Hartham Common following three robberies at knifepoint on Sunday 21st July.

British Transport Police received a report of a robbery at Hertford East railway station at 10:50am after a group of five are reported  to have approached the victim, a man aged in his late teens. A knife is reported to have been seen during the robbery and a number of items were taken, including a wallet and a phone. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

At 4.07pm officers were called to Ware station following a report of a knifepoint robbery on board a train. A man had a number of items taken by four men who boarded the train at Broxborne station. The suspects remained on the train after the victim left at Ware station.

British Transport Police said: “A number of enquiries are underway including seizing any available CCTV evidence and speaking with witnesses. Anyone who was on board the train and saw what happened is asked to contract BTP by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 323 of 21/07/2019.”

Shortly after, between 4.50pm and 5.20pm, a 17-year-old boy was approached on Hartham Common by a group of males, believed to be aged in their mid-teens, who demanded he hand over his bag. One of the males then produced a knife.

Cash was taken from the victim’s bag and the group left the area, heading towards Ware.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

Police say that enquiries are continuing at this time to trace those involved and anyone with information is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/66180/19.
