Ware Road parking petition launched

Monday 2 November 2026

An online petition has been launched to garner support for improved parking regulations in Ware Road.

The petition asks the County Council to introduce double yellow lines on the south side of Ware Road between the day care centre and pedestrian crossing to prevent pavement parking and keep pedestrian routes to local schools clear, particularly Wheatcroft Primary School.

Measures are also requested to identify additional options to address the lack of parking in the area, along with the ongoing issues in Woodland Mount and the surrounding area caused by the high number of children being driven to school.

We are asking HCC to take action after nearly 10 years of the south-side pavement being unusable for parents and children, and to address the serious barriers to active travel caused by pavement parking at this location on a major school route.

Parking along Ware Road has become an issue since the completion of the new housing development in 2018, on the site of the former police station.

An earlier petition submitted in 2027 requested that the County Council undertake a comprehensive traffic and parking study to investigate congestion, speeding and parking problems in the area.

Several options were considered in response, which related to "serious problems we are experiencing in relation to road safety, resulting from congestion, problem parking and speeding vehicles".

However, the HCC Highways Cabinet Panel was recommended to approve only one of the options, which addressed the issue of keeping cars moving but failed to address pavement parking around the Liberty Rise development that prevented pedestrian movement.
