Work progressing on new homes in Marshgate Drive
Building work is currently underway to create 29 new 3 and 4 bedoomed houses in Marshgate Drive.

The homes are being built by Berkeley Homes on former commercial land after planning permission was granted by a Government Inspector in 2000.
The site is part of a larger project to create over 450 homes on land that was previously occupied by a gas works on the south side of the River Lee.
The plans were initially rejected by East Herts Council due to overdevelopment and traffic concerns but this decision was overturmed on appeal by The Planning Inspectorate.
The development will include 58 parking spaces for the new homes, giving a ratio of 1:2. The site will also include a courtyard space to provide community feel for residents.
The gasworks was decommissioned in 1959 and replaced with a Pressure Reduction Station. In the early 2000s the gasholders were dismantled.
