Ridgeway Fun Day

Wednesday 1 December 2010

East Herts District Council are holding a funday at The Ridgeway on Saturday to mark the completion of work to improve access.

The event runs fFrom 10am to 12:30 and features bulb planting, opportunities to create an apple bird feeder and make your own nature mask. There will also be face painting from 11:30.

East Herts Council has cleared back the impenetrable hedges of bramble and inaccessible litter, installed a slide down the bank, rope swings, a large climbing frame and a bird hide.

Groundwork Hertfordshire designed and contract managed the improvements and have recently put in steps on one side and a new path on the other. Local young people were asked what they wanted to see and the overwhelming feedback was "something more exciting".

The final phase over the last few weeks has been to replant some of the trees that were lost while the space was so overgrown.

The access work was part-funded by Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK through the Landfill Communities Fund, which contributed £55,000. The new play area was paid for with £52,000 from central government through their Play Builder scheme.
