Rivers flood Hertford

Both the River Lee and Beane breached their banks yesterday, causing flooding and leading to the evacuation of homes off Hertfingfordbury Road.

With water levels rising, homes in Riversmeet were evacuated as The Lee rose to record levels. The Consumers Association were also flooded, with pumps brought in to remove floodwater.

The Beane also rose to record levels, peaking at 6pm with the height of the river measured at 1.5m, almost three times the normal high of 0.6m. Parts of Hartham Common were flooded, as were parts of Beane Road, Port Vale and the bottom of Nelson Street.
