Elder Court arsonists sought

Wednesday 24 February 2010

Police are appealing for information after arsonists struck in an underground car park in Mead Lane.

The fire brigade attended the incident in the early hours of Friday morning at Elder Court, a development of new flats that are in the final stages of construction. Some units have already occupied.

It is believed that the offender(s) gained entry to the underground car park and deliberately set fire to some building materials which were stored in a parking bay, causing substantial damage.

PC Sarah Burkert, investigating, said: “Not only was the cost of the damage to the building materials in excess of £5000, but this was in a residential area and the fire could have spread and put people’s lives in danger.

“I would like to speak to anyone who believes they saw any suspiciously activity in the area that night. Please contact me as soon as possible via the non emergency number 0845 3300222 as soon as possible quoting crime reference number A1/10/496.”
