Shoplifter sentenced

A Hertford man has appeared in court in connection with a number of shoplifting offences committed in the town.

Billy Barclay, aged 44, was arrested during proactive patrols by officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team.

He was subsequently charged with four offences of stealing meat, from the Co-op in Fleming Crescent on 9th and 15th January, and from Marks and Spencer in Fore Street on 15th and 16th January.

Barclay, of Windsor Drive, pleaded guilty during a hearing at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Friday (19th January) and was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £385.70 in compensation, in addition to surcharges and costs.
