Murder charges follow car park assault

Three people have been charged with murder after a man was assaulted in Tesco's car park last month.

Stuart Smith, 42, Karen Lynn, 41, and Charlie Penn, 20, all of Cromwell Road, Ware, have been remandedn custody ahead of a court appearance scheduled for April 2024.

Smith has also been charged with actual bodily harm (ABH).

Police were called to the car park of Tesco in Ware Road, where an altercation occurred between a group of people, at around 8.15pm on Saturday 4th November.

The victim, Wayne Ambridge, 50, from Ware, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital where he sadly died on Thursday 9th November.

A murder investigation was subsequently launched by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.

Detective Inspector Iain MacPherson, from the MCU, said: "Our thoughts are with Wayne's family and friends at this very difficult time, and we would ask that their privacy is respected.

"Three people have been charged with murder in connection with the incident and have been remanded into custody ahead of a court appearance in April 2024.

"I would like to thank members of the public who have reported information to us."
