Bus station to close until further notice

Wednesday 3 May 2023

Hertford Bus Station is to close until further notice due to works being carried out by developer Chase New Homes.

The shock closure will take place with immediate effect from Wednesday 3rd May, with all stops moving to Bircherley Street and Fore Street.

Hertfordshire County Council and East Herts District Council issued a joint statement on Tuesday, saying: "All of Hertford Bus Station will be temporarily closed from Wednesday 3 May, while Chase New Homes carry out work as part of their redevelopment of Bircherley Green.

"Two bus stands and the footpath were closed by the developer last week and as a result, following a thorough assessment of the site, it is necessary to close the rest of the bus station for safety reasons while the development work continues.

"Bus services will continue to operate and buses that normally use the bus station will, for the foreseeable future, stop at temporary bus stops on Bircherley Street and Fore Street instead.

"Council staff will be on site on Wednesday to provide assistance.

"We will continue working with Chase to minimise disruption to passengers and residents."

For updates on the bus services and details of alternative arrangements in place, travellers can check www.intalink.org.uk.

Chase New Homes have been approachbed for comment.
