Local artist creates schematic town map

Local artist Paul Crowley has created a schematic map of the town influenced by Harry Beck's iconic undeground map of London.

'Hertford Connections' features a range of locations in the town connected by themed lines such as McMullen (brewers), Wallace (Naturalist) and Bridgeman (Charles, organist of All Saints Church from 1791 to 1872).

The map also features the town's four rivers and Hartham Common. Locations include past and present shops, pubs, amenities and landmarks.

The map was created whilst Paul was self-isolating with Covid, describing it as: "a memory dump and a bit of fun. It’s not geographic - more direction and connections like most travel maps. Capturing a bit of local history and place. A trip down memory Lane."

Crowley's previous work includes prints of Hertford and Ware views, most prominently displayed outside Lussmanns during lockdown. His night-time photos of the town are also widely viewed on social media.

Born and bred in Hertford, Paul Crowley attended Morgan's Walk and Richard Hale schools. He is owner and Creative Director at digital media agency Demographik.

'Hertford Connections' will be available to buy at Brothership in Bull Plain from next week.
