Work on redeveloping Hertford Theatre is expected to get underway in the coming weeks after a contractor was finally appointed to the project.

Award-winning contractor GPF Lewis, based in Kings Langley, have signed a contract with East Herts Council for the £24m scheme, which will transform the theatre into a thriving hub for arts and culture.
The redeveloped venue will include increased seating and new circle level in the main auditorium, three new bespoke cinemas, new dance studios, first floor bar, riverside café, plaza style foyer and development of an Education & Wellbeing department for schools and community groups, as well as improved back stage facilities.
Eric Buckmaster, Executive Member for Wellbeing at East Herts Council said: "This project is so important, not just for Hertford and its residents, but for the wider communities too and I am delighted to announce that Hertfordshire based GPF Lewis are the contractor we have chosen to help us move it forward.
"Residents, business owners and tenants located near the theatre can be assured that GPF Lewis not only bring their expertise in construction but also their experience of engaging with the communities within which they are working; and they will be keeping all relevant parties informed on noise and surface access measures as the development progresses.
"I'd also like to thank Bennetts Associates our Architects and Bristow Johnson Cost Management for their valued input that has enabled us to reach this position with a strong development plan in place with which to take forward and implement our vision.
