Police appeal following sexual assault

Wednesday 23 February 2022

Detectives are trying to trace a possible witness to a sexual assault that occurred in Hertford last year, after new information came to light this week.

The incident ocurred on Thursday 9th December 2021 between 7.30pm and 8pm when two teenagers – a male and a female – were walking through an alleyway off Church Street. At this point the male reportedly began touching the female inappropriately before exposing himself.

Both the suspect and the victim were known to each other.

The incident took place in an alleyway off Church Street

Detective Constable Aaron Golley, who is investigating, said: "This has understandably left a vulnerable teenage girl feeling very distressed, and she is being supported by specially trained officers. I appreciate that a significant amount of time has passed since the date this incident took place, however we are ensuring that we exhaust all possible lines of enquiry

"New information came to light this week regarding a possible witness who we are hoping to trace. The victim reported that during the incident, an unknown man walked past and may have seen the assault. This man could have key information, and I am very keen to speak to him – if you believe this was you, please get in touch.

"Alternatively, if you have any information that you think may help with our enquiries, please get in contact. Even something that may seem relatively minor or insignificant could be key to progressing our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to email DC Golley, contact the police online, use online web chat, or call the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference 41/3040/22.
