Mayor plants Jubilee tree
The Mayor of Hertford, Cllr. Bob Deering, has planted an oak tree at North Road Allotments in Hertford, to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee and as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy.

North Road Allotnment Group Chairman, Jim Waight, explained “Our old oak tree had sadly died and we wanted to replace it. We felt that it would be appropriate to use this as a celebration of the 70 year reign of our Queen, Elizabeth II. We are grateful that the Mayor, Cllr. Deering, agreed to come along and carry out the formal planting. A good number of our members came to join in the celebration and toast the health of the Queen.”
Queen Elizabeth was proclaimed Queen on 7th February 1952 following the death of her father King George VI.
North Road Allotments are managed by North Road Plotholders Group (NRPG), a not-for-profit gardening group, on behalf of Hertford Town Council.
