New bus service for Sele Farm

Sunday 30 May 2021

A new hourly bus service linking Sele Farm to Welwyn Garden City has launched, after the county council secured £400,000 from government to improve existing bus routes and to put in place more frequent bus services for local people.

The 324, operated by Arriva, will run hourly every day, stopping at Hertford Bus Station (Bircherley Green), Hertford North Rail Station, Sele Farm in Hertford, Black Fan Road in Welwyn Garden City and Welwyn Garden City Bus Station.

The introduction of improved services aims to encourage greater use of the bus network by putting in place more frequent services, especially on evenings and on Sundays.

It also responds to consultation with residents about where improvements were most needed to the bus service.

The new route will also service the new Blakemore Manor development in Thieves Lane.

Mark Kemp, Director of Hertfordshire Council Environment & Infrastructure said: "I am delighted that we have been successful in our bid for vital funding that will help connect up Hertfordshire better than ever before. Enhancing these bus services will not only support local communities but also help the overall recovery of bus provision, following the challenging times associated with the pandemic.

"It also supports our aspiration for a Sustainable Hertfordshire. A cleaner, greener and more sustainable county is in everyone’s interests"

The Better Bus Fund is a grant offered by the Department for Transport, intended to support those local authorities who take a partnership approach to bus services in congested urban areas where increasing bus occupancy and achieving modal shift can free up valuable road space and reduce carbon emissions.
