Join the Creepy-Crawly Nature Trail

A local business and community organisation is staging a free Creepy-Crawly Nature Trail on Hartham Common this half-term. 

The Mill House is running the event for the entire half-term week from 24th October to 1st November, encourgaing children to connect with nature and experience all that autumn has to offer. 

Following a special nature trail map, children can explore the park to find pictures of creepy-crawlies hidden in the trees. Each creepy-crawly reveals a letter which makes up a secret password for a chance to win a wonderful nature kit, including free tickets to The Very Hungry Caterpillar Christmas Show at Hertford Theatre. 

The Mill House was awarded a community grant by Hertford Town Council to run the event. 

The Mill House owner Charlie Bentley said: "We provided free park activities on a small-scale during lockdown but we wanted to do something bigger and better, so we applied for a community grant. 

"We loved the idea of a nature trail. A fun Covid-safe activity, encouraging everyone to get outside and explore the park in a different way. 

"Connecting with nature, even for a few minutes each day, can go a long way to helping both adult and children's mood and overall wellbeing, which I feel is more important than ever right now.

"We worked with local businesses to design a trail guide which includes brilliant natural play ideas from Natural Edge Coaching and kids’ yoga with Trish from The Remedy. 

"After just two days, over 250 people have already downloaded the trail map. It’s been such a joy to see the park buzzing with families, discovering the creatures and having fun connecting with nature!”

The free trail maps can be picked up from The Mill House, Coffee Lab, Brothership, Tourist Information, Eye Mind Heart, Hertford North Station and B.Green Store. Or it can be downloaded and printed at home from www.themillhousehertford.com/naturetrail. There is no need to book and people can enter the free prize draw after they’ve completed the trail via the Mill House website. 

The Mill House is a multi-functional space on the Dicker Mill estate, offering local businesses and members of the community a unique and interesting venue to hold creative workshops, health and wellbeing classes, photo shoots and more.
