Roadworks Causing Gridlock in Town

Wednesday 30 May 2018

Delays of over and hour are being reported by users of social media due to roadworks in London Road.

The gas mains replacement works are being carried out by Cadent and involve closing one lane of the A414 southbound until the end of the week. However, no work is actually taking place in the road.

Queues are building up during the evening rush hour, leading to long tailbacks in Mead Lane and on the Hertingfordbury Road west of the town.

Many people commented on both Facebook and Twitter about the delays:

"It’s took 70 minutes to go 500 yards. Unbelievable"

"Anything you can do to ease the pain on Mead Lane? Queues for over an hour."

"Just took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to get through Hertford. Delays of 30min + what a load of nonsense. To top it off no one on site working at 17.45. Surely when causing this much disruption should be on site 7.00 to 20.00 Don’t they have out of hours teams.  running the show."

"Closing a lane on each of the approaches to the west London Road roundabout is causing absolute chaos in all directions, and it seems to be completely unnecessary. Cones for the sake of cones. And to rub it in, no sign of any work in progress. 20 min journey took 2 hours!"
