New Mayor installed
The new mayor of Hertford is Councillor Bob Deering, who was installed in the role, in an online ceremony streamed live on YouTube.

The new deputy mayor is Cllr. Jane Sartin and the new leader of the town council Cllr.Sally Newton.
Councillor Deering also represents Hertford St.Andrews Ward on the County Council, and Hertford Castle Ward on the Disrrict Council.
The online ceremony included contributions from Sele School, the Richard Hale Choir and the Simon Balle Big Band,
Cllr. Deering said: "Hertford is a special place and I am enormously honoured to be the Mayor for the forthcoming year. These are exceptional times. My year as Mayor will be very different from all those in the more than 400 Mayoral years that precede me. I became a Councillor to give something back and I will do my best to work for the best interests of every citizen of Hertford."
The role of Mayor is purely a symbolic one, representing the town at civic occasions, as well as at events held by the town's schools, clubs and charitable organisations.
The position of mayor was established in 1605 after the town was granted a charter by James I.
