Council objects to tree nursery homes plan

Hertford Town Council have issued a formal objection to plans to build three detached bungalows and three detached houses on the site of the Tree Heritage nursery in North Road.

The council joins the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust and Bengeo Neighbourhood Area Plan in raising concerns about the proposals.

The council's planning sub-committee said: "The Committee fundamentally object to the development of the green belt and the loss of openness when viewed from Waterford Marshes. The Committee also had concerns regarding closing off the distinct gap of dwellings between Bengeo Ward and Waterford".

The site is also occupied by V&V Reclamation, who specialise in architectural salvage.

Despite being previously developed, the site is in the metropolitan green belt and close to Waterford Marsh and the Waterford Heath Nature Reserve.

The council is also objecting to plans to convert Scott House in Hagsdell Road in to 12 flats due to "the over-intensive number of dwellings would affect the historic character of the building".

The town council does not determine planning applications, but is a statutory consultee. The final decision will be made by East Herts District Council.
