New plans for Tamworth Road

Thursday 16 April 2020

Developers have revealed a new plan for development on an old industrial site in Tamworth Road.

Rockwell homes are currrently holding a virtual public consultation on proposals to build 17 flats and 32 houses on the site.

The plans include a range of 1, 2, 3 and four bedroomed family homes (1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom dwellings).  Parking for 102 vehicles will also be provided. Affordable housing also features in the plans.

An earlier plan submited last Autumn for 11 houses and 78 flats has attracted widespread criticism, with 251 public objections being registered on the District Council's planning portal.  Hertford Town Council strongly opposed the "overdevelopment of the site and specifically the height and scale of the buildings, the mix of housing types".

The new plans are a significant departure, greatly increasing the number of houses and reducing the number of flats. There has also been a reduction in the four storey element of the buildings at the rear of the site nearest the railway line.

Rockwell hopes to submit the new proposals to East Herts District Council by the end of April and are hoping for a decision in the Autumn.

The online consultation can be found at www.tamworthroad-consultation.co.uk.
