Former Mayor dies

Tuesday 14 April 2020

Town councillor and former Mayor, Linda Radford, has died after being ill for a number of months.

Her death was announced on the town council's website and social media.

Hertford Town Council is deeply saddened to announce the death of long-serving Councillor and former Mayor of Hertford Dr Linda Radford. She had been ill for a number of months.

Linda served as Mayor of Hertford from 2015 to 2017, and prior to that was Leader of the Council.

She was first elected to represent Bengeo Ward in 2007. She also served as Mayoress when her late husband, Russell, was Mayor of Hertford.

Linda was an active volunteer with a number of local organisations, and before retirement worked as a pharmacist with her own business in Broxbourne.

Mayor of Hertford, Cllr Rosemary Bolton, said: "Linda was a kind, compassionate and intelligent person, and a committed and dedicated Councillor. She made a huge contribution to Hertford over the years, including two terms as Mayor. She will be sadly missed by her colleagues and community. We would like to express our sincere condolences to her family and many friends."

Friends and colleagues posted tributes on social media.

The Mayor of Ware, Cllr Nina Villa, commented: "Such terrible news - really sad to read this. Such a lovely lady and a wonderful ambassador for our county town. Rest in peace Linda, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family".

Town councillor, Jane Sartin, wrote: "Linda Radford will be hugely missed by many people, & the organisations she supported. I will miss her very much".

Town, District and County councillor Bob Deering posted: "Such sad news. Linda was just so nice, accomplished, selfless and modest. A pharmacist, Ph.D, artist and 2-time Mayor, Linda’s commitment to Hertford and its residents was exceptional. She will be greatly missed."

Linda Radford represented the town's Bengeo ward along with Sally Newton, Alex Daar and Peter Ruffles.
