Local organisations benefit from county grants

Tuesday 7 July 2026

County Councillor Rachel Carter has given two grants from her Locality Budget to help local organisations and residents.

Cllr. Carter has given £400 to SOEH Chiefs Basketball to help athletes with intellectual disabilities attend the Special Olympics Great Britain National Summer Games in Manchester from 7th to 9th August 2026.

The National Summer Games is the highest level of competition within Special Olympics GB and serves as a key selection event for athletes hoping to represent Great Britain at the 2027 Special Olympics World Games in Chile.

The Chiefs Special Olympics Basketball Club does a wonderful job providing inclusive basketball training and the opportunity to compete at a top level to local residents. The club helps with building confidence and social skills as well as fitness and sporting skills and I am delighted to support it. I hope they will do very well at the Special Olympics in August!

Cllr Carter has also given £500 to Hertford Children's Choir,St Andrew's Church Hertford, to support the Waterford Windows Music Project which will see local children take part in the creation and performance of a new musical work inspired by the historic stained-glass windows at St Michael’s and All Angels Church, Waterford.

The funding will contribute towards commissioning new poetry and music, supporting future performances and helping to deliver workshops for local schools.

I'm delighted to support Hertford St Andrew's Children's Choir with this project - it's a great initiative, giving local children an opportunity to take part in high-quality music making. They'll also get to develop an appreciation of a very beautiful cultural asset - Waterford's amazing stained-glass windows.

Locality Budgets have funded thousands of projects since the launch of the initiative in 2009.
