Man sentenced after violent assault

A man has been give a suspended gaol sentence following an unprovoked attack on two members of the public in October last year.

Joshua Slowley-Wright, 28, of Bury Street, Greater London was sentenced at Stevenage Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 23rd June after earlier pleading guilty to Actual Bodily Harm, assault by beating and criminal damage.

On Sunday 12th October 2025 on Fore Street in Hertford, Slowley-Wright approached two innocent members of the public who were enjoying their night out.

Slowley-Wright followed one of the victims into an alleyway before punching them in the face, grabbing their phone, and smashing it. He then proceeded to punch and headbutt the other victim.

Both victims sustained head and facial injuries requiring hospital treatment.

During the investigation, PC Jake Moules identified Slowley-Wright using the CCTV footage outside the bar and matching it with the image on his driving licence which had been scanned in when he entered the bar.

Slowley-Wright was then subsequently charged with two counts of assault, and one count of criminal damage.

The judge ordered a 16-week prison sentence for the ABH offence and a four-week prison sentence for the assault by beating and criminal damage. Both are suspended for 12 months. Should the defendant breach the conditions of the sentence, he could be sent to prison.

PC Jake Moules from the Ware Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "These offences had a significant impact on two innocent victims, who were violently assaulted outside Cinnabar and left with facial injuries.

"Violent behaviour of this nature is completely unacceptable. I am pleased the offender has been brought before the courts.

"We will continue to work hard to tackle violence and protect our communities."
