Man charged with arson

A man has appeared at Hatfield Magistrates Court today following two fires in Hertford.

Police and fire services attended in the early hours of yesterday after two bins had been set alight in St Andrews Street and Old Cross. Damage was caused to the wall of a business premises as a result.

Following enquiries a man was arrested and has today been charged.

Mark Lovegrove, 41, of no fixed abode, has been charged with one count of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered and two counts of arson.

Following his appearance before Hatfield Magistrates’ Court, he has been remanded in custody, ahead of a pre-trial preparation hearing at St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday 10th February.
