Man jailed after Tesco car park death

A Ware man has been jailed after a fight in Tesco's car park led to the death of a disabled man.

Amputee Wayne Ambridge died five days after an altercation between two families in the car park of Tesco in Ware Road on 4th November 2023. 

Stuart Smith, 43, was sentenced to five years in jail after admitting manslaughter and Actual Bodily Harm at St.Albans Crown Court, following an altercation in the car park of Tesco in Ware Road on 4th November 2023.

Smith's partner Karen Lynn, 42, was charged with murder and manslaughter, whilst her son, Charlie Penn, 21, was also charged with manslaughter, charges they both denied. 

Lynn and Penn were cleared of murder but the jury could not reach a verdict on Lynn's manslaughter charge. Penn was cleared of both murder and manslaughter.

The two families were in dispute over the relationship between Ambridge's son Reece and Lynn's daughter Abi.
