Big Freeze Continues

Thursday 7 January 2010

Schools remain closed and travel disrupted as the wintry weather continues to grip the town.

Simon Balle will be closed again tomorrow (Friday) but Richard Hale will be open unless there is further heavy snow. Most school websites are posting updates on school closures.

There were no trains from Hertford East earlier in the day after overhead cable problems at Hackney Downs.

On the roads there were several accidents, with Welwyn Road closed for an hour after a tanker collided with a parked car.

Major roads have been gritted but minor roads are hazardous. Many pavements are treacherous.

Parts of the River Lee have frozen between the Hertford Basin and lock.

Refuse collections have been suspended. East Herts Council are recommending that excess waste be bagged and left beside your bin.

Temperatures tonight are expected to fall to minus 4C.
